🚨 A military invasion in Rafah would be CATASTROPHIC. Almost 1.3 million people, including at least half a million children, are now crammed into this small city in #Gaza. There can be no more “evacuations”. There is no safe place to go. There must be a #CeasefireNOW 🚨

A global movement of people who won't live with poverty.
About us
Oxfam is a vibrant global movement of dedicated people fighting poverty - together. Oxfam fights poverty in three ways: Campaigning, Development and Emergency Response. Campaigning for change: Poverty isn’t just about lack of resources. In a wealthy world it’s about bad decisions made by powerful people. Oxfam campaigns hard, putting pressure on leaders for real lasting change. Development work: Poor people can take control, solve their own problems, and rely on themselves – with the right support. Fighting poverty, we fund long-term work worldwide. Emergency response: People need help in an emergency – fast. We save lives, swiftly delivering aid, support and protection; and we help people prepare for future crises. Oxfam also has around 670 shops in the UK and an online shop selling over 100,000 volunteer-listed second-hand clothes, books, music and collectables, plus Fairtrade and ethical gifts: http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop Interested in working for Oxfam? 🔴 The UK must act now, and end all arms sales to Israel and call for a #CeasefireNOW. Sign our letter: https://lnkd.in/dPqp7MTy Rafah in #Gaza, where 1.4 million women, men and children are sheltering, is under attack. A humanitarian catastrophe of an unfathomable scale is starting to unfold. People are facing bombardment, starvation and disease. There is nowhere safe to go. Political leaders say they’re ‘deeply concerned’ about this military offensive. Yet the UK is complicit through continuing to sell arms to Israel. Words without actions are meaningless.

How can African women and girls make their voices heard in #climate action? Women across the continent, especially in rural and coastal areas, are paying a heavy price for the climate emergency, so why are they so often missing from key areas of influence such as climate research and national environment ministries? Ilse Kithembe sets out five ways to tackle Africa’s environmental gender gap, as Oxfam au Sénégal launches a new paper on boosting the role of communities in climate action. https://lnkd.in/e2iyXrVm Latest post on our Views and Voices blog for development professionals. JOINT STATEMENT ON THE ATTACK ON #Rafah, from 31 UK NGOs: “The failure of our leaders to back words with meaningful action is glaring. As the 1.4 million people in Rafah face attacks that our leaders know would be catastrophic, they must finally act to stop the slaughter". Full statement and signatories: https://lnkd.in/et2dfZzn

With the closing of border crossings virtually no aid is getting into Gaza. The Israeli Government has escalated its military offensive in Rafah. Our fears grow for the 1.4 million women, men and children trapped with nowhere safe to go. Meanwhile, the UK Government continues to fuel the Israeli military operation by selling arms. Words of concern by British political leaders are meaningless unless they are backed by action. The UK is complicit in this crisis. It must #StopSendingArms to Israel and pressure the Israeli Government to agree to a #CeasefireNOW. Sign the letter here: https://bit.ly/3TA6oyK

“I’ve wanted to run London for years and applied via the ballot for 21 years without success. I wanted to run for a charity that meant something to me and Oxfam was the perfect fit. I lived in Tanzania as child and subsequently served in Kenya with the Army, so had seen first-hand the work that Oxfam carries out within East Africa.” “I also wanted to honour my Sister who died in September, I had a photo of her dressed as a fairy, hence running as a big pink fairy! So far, I’ve raised just over £2200 and the money is still coming in.” - Matt Thank you to Matt and all our amazing London Marathon runners!
